Sumatra
After decades of trading Indonesian coffee, Wahana Estate found the need to produce and supply coffee for the specialty and high grade specialty market. Through years of research of planning, they finally acquired the land and started the project in 2005. Wahana Estate is the first single varietal and speciality estate located in Sumatra. It currently extends across 500 hectares, 250 of which are given over to growing coffee, with a further 30 hectares to a nursery. The estate also provides free water, electricity and housing to the 950+ workers it employs, as well as a kindergarten, healthcare centre and nursery.
The Rasuna varietal is a cross between the Typica and Catimor varietals. It is a natural coffee that is processed on-site at Wahana and then shipped for roasting by yours truly. It's floral and rosey on the nosey, but you'll taste prunes and dark berries. The aftertaste will leave you feeling like you've just had an almond crossiant!
